Blue Collar Magazine was initially a product of the Massachusetts Chimney Sweep Guild. 

However, under the direction of Dave Hannah, the magazine grew to a larger number of pages and the circulation increased to the vast majority of chimney sweeps in the United States.

Chimney Professional Magazine was a publication of Accolade Group of Vermont, LLC which is the owner of, this website.

Chimney Professional Magazine was published from 1995 to 1996. The final issue had a circulation of 2,364 which made Chimney Professional Magazine the publication with the largest circulation in the chimney industry. This record was maintained until 2020 when the circulation was eclipsed by Blue Collar Magazine.

The main concept of CPM was to provide chimney companies information about best business practices. A few other smaller publications offered information about what to do on the rooftop, how to repair fireplaces and wood stoves; however, none really addressed issues of owning and operating a small business.

Consequently, Chimney Professional Magazine focused on topics such as how to hire and fire employees, how to work with the IRS, how to manage earnings from chimney work. 

As this was the beginning age of the Internet, new topics introduced were related to what kind of computer to purchase, how to maintain a database, internet security, and How to Create a Website.

CPM moved the publication from the print media to an electronic format in 1996. At the same time, Accolade Group of Vermont, LLC increased its visibility in producing websites for the chimney industry.

Among the first companies to have websites were Copperfield Chimney Supply, Golden Flue, Chim-Cap Corp – all designed, created, and hosted by Accolade Group of Vermont. 

As Accolade Group began to be more and more immersed in the world of the Internet, there was simply not enough time to allocate to CPM. Oddly, the amount of time given to Chimney Professional Magazine was more and more devoted to – the website you are looking at right now!

The articles that you will see in our selection from Chimney Professional Magazine are historical in nature. You will, however, find benefit in reading about the formation and operation of a chimney sweep business. This information has a much longer lifespan.
